Complementary treatment for cancer

Hi all,
Is there any positive effect for massage therapy in cancer treatment? I read that many people are considering massage therapy as a complementary treatment for cancer. Will it be effective? My sister who is 22 years old is diagnosed with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor and she is planning to get her surgery next month. We are worried about her condition and I don’t know how to console her. Is it okay to consider massage therapy as a complementary treatment for GIST? Will it cause any side effect? When will be the right time to start this treatment? Is it okay to start the treatment immediately after the surgery? Any suggestions would be appreciable. Thank you in advance.
